Guillermo Rodríguez Lara is one of the most prominent figures in Mexican public life over the past sixty years. He served as head of state for four years during a period of profound national change, and he is also a leading representative of the generation of nationalist officers in the Armed Forces who were committed to a project of development, renewal, and modernization for the country.
This book contains an interview conducted by Enrique Ayala Mora with General Rodríguez Lara, in which he recounts his long life, from his birth in Pujilí to his retirement from public life in 1976, and up to the present. Its pages contain memories of his studies and military missions as a young officer, his command roles, the conspiracy that brought him to power, and his tenure as President of the Republic at the head of the “Revolutionary Nationalist Government of the Armed Forces.” In its final pages, the veteran military leader is portrayed as an observer of the country and a provincial landowner.
Rodríguez Lara’s account is complemented by a large number of photographs, several of them previously unpublished, and by an overview of his government’s work prepared by him, which is published at the end.
