Synopsis

It analyzes the Rodríguez Lara administration (1972–1976) as a national political project that sought to modernize Ecuador through “state capitalism.” The regime strengthened sovereignty over strategic resources: it created CEPE, joined OPEC, defended the 200-mile territorial sea, and implemented massive electrification and infrastructure projects. Despite opposition from the oligarchy, it promoted industry and an agrarian reform that fostered social mobility.

Author Biography

Daniel Granda Arciniega

Es PhD en Filosofía por la Universidad Santo Tomás (Roma) y magíster en Sociología Política con mención en Gobernabilidad y Sistemas Institucionales por la Universidad Central del Ecuador. Diplomado en Seguridad y Desarrollo por el Instituto de Altos Estudios Nacionales (IAEN). Ha ejercido la docencia en la Universidad Católica (1976-1980), la Universidad Central del Ecuador (1977-2014) y como profesor-asesor del IAEN (1984-1988 y 1995-1998). Fue diputado por Loja (1990-1992) y por Pichincha (1998-2002), además de secretario general del Congreso Nacional en 2006. Ex-Director de la Escuela de Sociología y Ciencias Políticas de la Universidad Central del Ecuador. Desde 2020 es director-editor de la Revista Academia de Guerra del Ejército Ecuatoriano.
