A systematic overview of the experience of Los Chapulos, one of the organizers of Alfaro Vive Carajo
Synopsis
Between 1979 and 1983, the insurgent group “Los Chapulos,” which emerged from the Christian Left, carried out a political-military campaign in Ecuador. The text outlines its ideological formation, the launch of its project, and its tactical retreat amid an oil boom, capitalist modernization, and state repression. This experience of popular self-education and convergence with other armed groups was a fundamental step toward the subsequent emergence of Alfaro Vive Carajo (AVC).
