Synopsis

The portrayal of the highlands has been a central theme in Latin American cinema, evolving toward new narratives in recent decades. This essay explores the aesthetic approaches and formal devices that define the current perspective on the Andean world. Through the concept of “small cinemas,” the author examines how these small-scale productions challenge traditional views, constructing a visual identity that is historical, diverse, and deeply political.
